Mask Outreach Project saves lives, builds healthier communities

Updated: May 6

"Love your neighbor as yourself" Mark 12:31

In March, Storytellers was inspired to help make masks with Marbella Isles at the request of an emergency trauma doctor at Lee Memorial Hospital. SCA volunteers joined the effort to make masks to help save the lives of those infected with the novel coronavirus, medical professionals, and caregivers. SCA’s Mask Outreach Project soon evolved, with 1,000 produced to date in support of Physicians Regional, Naples Community, and Lee Memorial hospitals.

A TEAM EFFORT

Each mask takes at least one hour to produce. Someone cuts the masks. There are 4 ties per mask. Someone marks the tie placements. Someone cuts and bends the wire to mold around the nose. Someone counts out 20 double-layer mask pieces, counts out 80 ties and 20 wires and puts them into a kit for the seamstress. Lastly the Seamstress sews the parts together.

Dr. Natasha Choyah extends thanks to Storytellers:

“Thank you to the kind volunteers of Storytellers Creative Arts. You have given so much to this project. I appreciate all the help and support your organization has given to this cause. These masks help protect the healthcare workers for the three large hospital systems in our area as they fight the COVID-19 pandemic. We can see how important this is as so many healthcare workers have fallen ill in the line of duty.”
